MAPINFO'S EARNINGS RISE ABOVE ESTIMATES.(BUSINESS)(Financial report)

North Greenbush MapInfo Corp. beat earnings projections for the quarter, and on Thursday upped its expectations for the year, after finding looser purse strings among its customers.

The mapping and database software firm, based at Rensselaer Technology Park in North Greenbush, posted $637,000 in net income, or 4 cents a share, for the fiscal first quarter that ended Dec. 31. That was a penny-a-share better than analyst estimates and 2 cents higher than the company's own guidance.

It was the third straight profitable quarter for the company, which had been hit hard by a two-year downturn in technology spending. …
