Fed: ALP to raise mandatory sentencing with Annan

CANBERRA, Feb 21 AAP - Labor would raise the issue of mandatory sentencing laws when
it met United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan today, Opposition foreign spokesman
Laurie Brereton said.

"Absolutely, and it needs to be discussed," Mr Brereton told Radio National.

"We'll be seeking to talk about the breach of the Convention on the Rights of the Child
(CROC) ... that results from the mandatory sentencing laws in Western Australia and the
Northern Territory."
