Fed: Prices at petrol pumps throughout Australia on the rise
Peak motoring bodies say the spike in world oil prices will flow to Australian petrol
pumps this weekend.
The Russian government's shock withdrawal of a promised lifeline for oil titan Yukos
has sent the US market into a spin with New York's crude oil contract reaching a record
high of $US44.50.
Royal Automobile Club of Victoria corporate relations manager DAVID CUMMING says Victorians
can expect to see petrol prices spike at 106.9 cents this weekend and lift to 108 by next
weekend.
In Hobart, the price of petrol averages 105.9 cents, with a high of 106.9 cents per
litre, while in New South Wales petrol prices are at a high of 109.9 and a low of 95.9
cents per litre today.
NRMA spokesman ALAN FINLAY says the price of petrol will rise above the 110-cent mark
this weekend.
