QLD:Migaloo not dead: expert

A dead white whale found floating off Palm Island near Townsville is not the famous
albino humpback Migaloo.

After viewing photos and video footage of the carcass spotted by fishermen, Whale Research
Centre founder OSKAR PETERSON says it has black spots - and Migaloo is all white.

First sighted near Byron Bay 20 years ago, Migaloo is the undisputed star of the annual
whale migration along Australia's east coast.

FED:Women already on frontline: Snowdon

By Lloyd Jones and Andrea Hayward

CANBERRA, April 13 AAP - Defence Personnel Minister Warren Snowdon doesn't think women
will be queuing up to join the infantry but says it's important to remember they are already
serving on the frontline.

Defence Minister Stephen Smith announced on Monday the federal government would hasten
the process to allow women to serve in combat roles as part of a shake-up of the Australian
Defence Force (ADF) and its attitude to women.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has backed the move, but Mr Snowdon doesn't believe there
will be an "avalanche" of women "running in to join the infantry".

"I think experience elsewhere has shown that there's been an initial spurt and then
it just goes off to a normal curve," Mr Snowdon told reporters in Perth.

Australian women were already serving in frontline roles in Afghanistan, he said.

"They may not be the warrior, in terms of carrying the weapon out on an infantry patrol,
but they have weapons and they're on the outside of the wire doing particular jobs," Mr
Snowdon said.

"They are just as exposed to the enemy."

A female soldier who joined the Army in 1995 and served in aviation roles supporting
the Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) and commando troops before discharging in 2009
disagrees with women taking on combat roles.

Asked if she supported the move, she said: "No, definitely not."

"I think women want to go into combat roles to prove a point but whether they have
the fitness, ability, knowledge and skill really to get them there, I doubt it," she told
AAP.

"There's a lot to learn, you can't just learn to be an infantry soldier and you can't
just be an SAS soldier."

Special forces soldiers go weeks without a shower when they go into combat.

The situation is just not suitable for a woman, the former soldier, who declined to
be named, said.

"It's very unhygienic, you can't just put deodorant on or take your girly wipes with
you," she said.

There would possibly be more casualties as male soldiers sought to protect their female
colleagues on the frontline, the soldier said.

The Defence Science and Technology Organisation had for some time been testing what
the physical standards should be for particular jobs.

"That will tell us what the attributes are to do the job and people who meet those
attributes can get the job, regardless of their sex," Mr Snowdon said.

The transition would have to be managed very carefully and sections of the community,
such as some RSL members, would oppose it, he said.

"I think they've got to come to terms with the fact that at this time in our history
women have a right to expect to be treated equally, and they should be given that opportunity,"

he said.

Mr Snowdon said he did not think servicemen would put obstacles in the way of women
who took up combat roles.

NSW:Keneally has lied to the public: O'Farrell

By Isabel Hayes

SYDNEY, Dec 24 AAP - NSW Premier Kristina Keneally has lied to the public about her
intentions to shut down parliament, Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell says.

Comments made by Treasurer Eric Roozendaal proved Ms Keneally lied when she denied
her decision to prorogue parliament was an attempt to kill off the upper house inquiry
into the $5.3 billion electricity sale, Mr O'Farrell told reporters in Sydney on Friday.

"Like some character out of the Griswolds' Family Christmas, Eric Roozendaal's arrived
back in town just to destroy the premier's claim that parliament wasn't shut down to stop
this parliamentary inquiry," Mr O'Farrell said, referring to the National Lampoon film.

News Ltd reported on Friday that Mr Roozendaal had admitted parliament had been closed
early to scuttle the inquiry.

"It has been prorogued early, it has been prorogued later (before past elections) but
at the end of the day we have got to work in the interests of the people of NSW," Mr Roozendaal
was reported as saying.

Mr O'Farrell said Mr Roozendaal's comments proved Ms Keneally had lied to the public.

"This is just a new low that Kristina Keneally has sunk to," he said.

"First, a power sale where she refuses to divulge the details; secondly, rejecting
a judicial inquiry; thirdly, trying to close the parliament down and fourthly, lying about
the reasons for that closure."

"There are meant to be some standards that are attached to the office of premier and
I have to say Kristina Keneally has failed them overnight and that has been confirmed
by Eric Roozendaal, her most senior supporter."

The state government was accused this week of trying to derail the upper house inquiry
into the part-privatisation of publicly owned electricity assets, after Governor Marie
Bashir prorogued parliament two months earlier than expected.

Ms Keneally said on Thursday that the inquiry would be illegal and witnesses would
not be protected by parliamentary privilege.

As a result, three Labor MPs boycotted a parliamentary committee meeting that day to
draft the terms of reference for the inquiry into the contentious partial privatisation.

However, the government's attempts to kill off the inquiry backfired after the clerk
of the upper house, Lynn Lovelock, advised the committee's chair - Christian Democrat
Fred Nile - there was nothing to stop the inquiry going ahead.

Tas: MP's partner charged, leaders condemn violence

By Paul Carter

HOBART, Aug 25 AAP - Senior political leaders have condemned violence against women
as unacceptable cowardice after the partner of a federal MP was charged with her assault.

The partner of Tasmanian federal Labor MP Jodie Campbell was on Tuesday granted bail
after being taken into custody following a domestic incident at their Launceston home.

Police charged Ms Campbell's partner Roland Small, 36, after he allegedly punched her
in the left eye and stomach and twisted her fingers in the early hours of Monday morning
at their Mowbray home.

Small appeared in the Launceston Magistrates Court on Tuesday to face one charge of
common assault after spending the night in custody.

He was not asked to enter a plea and was bailed by Magistrate Robert Pearce to reappear
in the same court on September 29.

A statement from Ms Campbell's office said the Bass MP, 36, was treated in hospital
for bruising and abrasions before being released to go home.

"The circumstances surrounding this matter are now the subject of an ongoing police
investigation," the statement said.

"As a consequence it would not be appropriate to comment further."

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said "acts of violence against women by men are cowardly".

"They have no place in modern Australia," Mr Rudd told reporters in Port Macquarie.

"The only attitude we can have is zero-tolerance and, as a nation, we need to embrace that."

Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull said he was very upset to hear about Ms Campbell.

"The opposition's thoughts and best wishes are with Jodie at this very, very tough
time," he told reporters in Melbourne.

The first-term MP's close friend, Health Minister Nicola Roxon, also wished Ms Campbell well.

"I can make some comments generally, and my view is that violence against women is
never acceptable," she told reporters at a conference in Sydney.

"It's something in the community that should not be condoned."

Ms Campbell has two daughters, aged eight and six, from a previous marriage.

She was single during the 2007 election campaign.

Vic: Pratt would not settle after telling PM there was no breach

MELBOURNE, Dec 11 AAP - Cardboard king Richard Pratt was reluctant to settle a multi-million
dollar cartel case because he had told the then prime minister John Howard he had not
breached the Trade Practices Act, a court has heard.

In a meeting to settle the cartel case last year, a lawyer for Pratt told members of
the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) his client was not prepared
to settle the case because of a discussion he had had with Mr Howard.

Giving evidence in the Federal Court on Thursday, lead ACCC investigator Geoffrey Williams
described the conversation.

"They indicated they had difficulty in relation to Mr Pratt," Mr Williams said.

"They said there was a political issue, they said Mr Pratt had told the prime minister
he had not contravened the Trade Practices Act."

Mr Williams told the court he believed the statement came from Pratt's barrister Jonathan
Beech QC.

Pratt eventually settled the case with Visy and was fined $35 million.

He is now facing criminal charges for allegedly misleading the ACCC.

Pratt's pre-trial hearing to determine what evidence will be admissible at his trial
is continuing.

WA: Carpenter expected to call September 6 election

PERTH, Aug 7 AAP - West Australian Premier Alan Carpenter is set to call an early election
and capitalise on turmoil within the state Liberal party.

A government spokesman has confirmed West Australians will go to the polls on September 6.

The election will be called this afternoon, one day after Opposition Leader Colin Barnett
was endorsed by his party as the fourth leader of the Liberals in less than four years.

Mr Barnett was still to unveil his shadow cabinet when it was announced that Mr Carpenter
would visit the Governor Ken Michael at 2.30pm (WST).

The premier has scheduled a press conference for 3.30pm.

Labor holds 30 seats in the 57-seat Legislative Assembly while the Greens and two independents
hold the balance of power in the Legislative Council.

The snap poll means an investigation by the Corruption and Crime Commission into links
between members of parliament and the disgraced former premier and lobbyist Brian Burke
will not be made public before the election.

It's understood the report was due to be released soon.

Mr Barnett has said he would make corruption a key plank of his campaign against the
government, and had warned Mr Carpenter not to call an election before the report was
handed down.

The poll is Mr Carpenter's first as premier, after being elected by caucus to lead
the parliamentary party in January 2006 after Geoff Gallop retired.

His government has faced several challenges, including the sacking, standing down or
demotion of ministers who had links with Mr Burke.

Edith Cowan University political analyst Peter van Onselen says Labor remains the favourite.

But he says the contest will now be much closer than if former leader Troy Buswell
was still at the helm, or if the government had waited longer after Mr Barnett's took
over from Mr Buswell yesterday.

"I think it's a cheap political move to try and take advantage of the leadership change
in the Liberal party, there's no doubt about that," Dr van Onselen said.

"But I think it's one that may backfire, because the Liberal party, their biggest problem
was their leader.

"Their policy construction was going along perfectly fine, so Colin Barnett has now
taken over a united team and he's also got bucketloads of credibility himself.

"So I think the Labor party are in for the fight of their lives at this election and
they're bringing it on sooner than they should have."

A recent electoral redistribution is viewed by analysts as being in Labor's favour.

What Australian newspapers say on Monday, August 27, 2007=2

AAP General News (Australia)

What Australian newspapers say on Monday, August 27, 2007=2

The Canberra Times says in a book out this week, retired Catholic bishop Geoffrey Robinson
has criticised the Catholic church's efforts to `manage' the problem of sexual abuse.

Robinson is critical of the lack of church leadership shown over the scandals and the
defensive ways it sought to deal with the problem, sometimes in attempts to sweep it under
the carpet, at other times to shut victims up so as to limit liability to them.

"Only a few bishops have seemed to most outsiders to put the interests of the flock
ahead of the institutional interests of the church," the newspaper says."

"Perhaps celibacy itself is not a cause of sexual abuse, but the maintenance of the
rule deprives the church of the services of many men who feel unable to make that sacrifice,
and involves the church in a great deal of hypocrisy in the pretence that it is widely
observed."

Adelaide's The Advertiser says half the respondents to a Galaxy poll published today
believe the $17.3 billion budget surplus is a result of high taxes.

The poll shows voters believe the Howard government has not done enough in infrastructure
spending and in the providing more generous tax cuts.

"This is the Achilles heel of the government's economic record -- that at a time when
the tax take is at a record high, basic services seem to be deteriorating due to lack
of investment," the newspaper says.

"It also represents a challenge and a political opportunity for Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd."

Hobart's The Mercury says Australia's public health system is in crisis, with chronic
bed shortages, excessive waiting lists, staffing problems and the closure of essential
services.

Mr Rudd responded to the Howard government's takeover of the Mersey hospital by proposing
an overhaul of the national health system and its 750 public hospitals.

"The Mersey hospital takeover may well be an extreme case of pork-barrelling, but it
raises the bigger question of whether it is indeed time for the federal government to
take control of the health system," the newspaper says.

Australia's public health system is too important to be used as a political football."

Darwin's Northern Territory News says one would have thought the Territory government
would have been delighted with Mr Rudd's proposal to take over responsibility for overcrowding,
emergency department delays and nurse shortages in public hospitals.

Yet Chief Minister Clare Martin is unwilling to give up control of hospitals despite
the massive challenges they offer.

"For better or worse, public hospitals are run by state and territory governments and
are always going to be more responsive to local needs than bureaucrats in Canberra," the
newspaper says.

"How could a planner down south possibly understand the unique conditions in the Territory,
where tribal indigenous people live on the fringes of modern society?"

Perth's The West Australian says only four applications for small bar licences have
been submitted to the state Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor since relaxed licensing
laws were changed to allow small bars to open four months ago.

The industry believes prospective bar owners are deterred by the red tape.

"Applications in WA for both small bar licences and permits for restaurants to serve
alcohol without meals include a public interest test," the newspaper says.

"In Melbourne, there are far fewer restrictions on the establishment of small bars,
and so the numbers have increased."

Brisbane's The Courier-Mail says the long-term costs of equine influenza to the racing
industry and the general economy could amount to billions of dollars if the measures put
in place are not as effective as possible.

The personal hardship in terms of lost wages already being felt by those in casual
positions associated with the industry needs to be recognised.

"The eventual outcome of the crisis ... should be twice-yearly vaccinations of all
race horses, assuming the strand of the disease found in Australia is one that vaccines
can prevent," the newspaper says.

"So far, the response of the racing industry has been positive and united."

FED: Federal Government launches flight to the Antarctic

SYDNEY, Dec 11 AAP - Australia's Antarctic research efforts have been given a major
boost, with the federal government announcing the acquisition of an Airbus A319 to transport
scientists to Casey Station.

Scientists, researchers and technicians have until now relied on ships to get to their
research post at Casey Station in the Antarctic - a gruelling trip that took up to ten
days.

Starting next summer, Australia's Antarctic researchers will be able to fly from Hobart
to the new runway near Casey Station cutting travel time down to four hours.

Announcing the acquisition of the Airbus today in Sydney, Environment Minister Ian
Campbell said the new plane would make Australia a world leader in Antarctic research.

"It will modernise our support for Australia's Antarctic program and allow researchers
to travel between the two continents much quicker," Senator Campbell told reporters in
Sydney.

"Again in the past, if you were a scientist and wanted to go to Antarctica ... you
had to put aside three, five or six months of your life, travel down across the roughest
ocean in the world and risk getting stuck down there if you get iced in.

"This aircraft service will allow scientists to fly down in just four hours, do the
research for the period of time they want to, and come back."

The airbus will be leased and operated by a private contractor and paid for by the
government's $46.3 million Australian Government Antarctic Air Service.

Fed: Hicks' lawyers say military tribunal won't give fair trial

SYDNEY, Aug 4 AAP - Lawyers for Australian terror suspect David Hicks say a new system
of military tribunals for non-US inmates at Guantanamo Bay would not guarantee their client
a fair trial.

The Bush administration is proposing a new system based on a court martial after the
US Supreme Court ruled in June that the previous military commissions were unlawful.

But Hicks' Adelaide-based lawyer David McLeod has told Fairfax newspapers the new system
would allow hearsay evidence and limit rights against self-incrimination before a trial.

Defendants would also have restricted access to classified information.

The Australian government would also be forced to reject the system because it had
made a commitment to only back a new trial system that met the demands of the US Supreme
Court, he said.

New Web Software a Challenge to Microsoft

ANICK JESDANUN, AP Internet Writer
AP Online
10-24-2005
Dateline: NEW YORK
A quiet revolution is transforming life on the Internet: New, agile software now lets people quickly check flight options, see stock prices fluctuate and better manage their online photos and e-mail.

Such tools make computing less of a chore because they sit on distant Web servers and run over standard browsers. Users thus don't have to worry about installing software or moving data when they switch computers.

And that could bode ill for Microsoft Corp. and its flagship Office suite, which packs together word processing, spreadsheets and other applications.

The threat comes in large part from Ajax, a set of Web development tools that speeds up Web applications by summoning snippets of data as needed instead of pulling entire Web pages over and over.

"It definitely supports a Microsoft exit strategy," said Alexei White, a product manager at Ajax developer eBusiness Applications Ltd. "I don't think it can be a full replacement, but you could provide scaled-down alternatives to most Office products that will be sufficient for some users."

Ironically, Microsoft invented Ajax in the late 90s and has used it for years to power an online version of its popular Outlook e-mail program.

Ajax's resurgence in recent months is thanks partly to its innovative use by Google Inc. to fundamentally change online mapping. Before, maps were static: Click on a left arrow, wait a few seconds as the Web page reloads and see the map shift slightly to the left. Repeat. Repeat again.

"It's slow. It's frustrating," said frequent map user Fred Wagner, a petroleum engineer in Houston. "We're all getting spoiled with wanting things to happen."

So he sticks with Google Maps these days. There, he can drag the map over any which way and watch new areas fill in instantly. He can zoom in quickly using an Ajax slider.

No more World Wide Wait.

"Everybody went, `Ooooh, how did they do that?'" said Steve Yen, who runs a company developing an Ajax spreadsheet called Num Sum. "It turns out the technology's been there for awhile."

Jesse James Garrett, an Adaptive Path LLC usability strategist who publicly coined the term `Ajax' 10 days after Google Maps launched in February, said such examples "convinced a lot of Web designers to take another look at something they may have previously dismissed as experimental."

Also contributing are faster Internet connections, more powerful computers and better browsers able to handle Ajax, which is short for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML.

Consider e-mail.

Until recently, Web mail meant sending forms back and forth online. Check an item to delete and hit a button. A remote mail server receives instructions and responds with an entirely new page, which is missing only the one deleted item.

Enter Yahoo Inc. and an interface it is testing using technology from an Ajax pioneer it bought, Oddpost. Delete an item this time, and Ajax reconfigures the page immediately without waiting for a response.

Open a message to read, and the browser fetches only the message's body _ it already has the subject line and other header information and doesn't have to waste time duplicating that data.

Yahoo also is developing an Ajax tool that instantly updates flight options as travelers narrow their choices of airports, airlines and travel times.

This summer, Time Warner Inc.'s America Online Inc. started using Ajax to let users rearrange, display and switch photo albums with fewer clicks.

And last week, Dow Jones & Co.'s MarketWatch began embedding news articles with stock quotes updated several times a second, blinking green and red as prices fluctuate.

"A Web page takes longer to load than that," said Jamie Thingelstad, MarketWatch's chief technology officer. "Your computer would just be hung."

Microsoft, which uses Ajax in a new map offering and an upcoming Hotmail upgrade, is even starting to build new tools to promote Ajax development _ even as it pushes a next-generation alternative.

The alternative technology, known as XAML, will permit even richer applications over browsers. Alas, unlike Ajax, it will run only on Microsoft's Windows computers _ no Macs, no Linux.

Startups, meantime, are embracing Ajax for Office-like tools. Such applications won't replace Office but could find a niche _ parents collaborating in a soccer league could jointly update a Num Sum spreadsheet with scores, while users too poor to buy Office or students always on the go could compose a letter from anywhere using Writely word processor.

Scott Guthrie, who oversees the Microsoft Ajax tools called Atlas, believes Ajax has a future but not one at odds with Microsoft's.

"Ultimately when you want to write a word processing document or manage a large spreadsheet, you are going to want the capabilities ... that are very difficult to provide on the Web today," Guthrie said.

Computer-intensive applications like Adobe Systems Inc.'s Photoshop image editor and high-end games won't come to browsers anytime soon.

Even Google had to create desktop mapping software, called Google Earth and requiring a download, to permit 3-D and advanced features.

"Ajax cannot do everything," said Bret Taylor, who oversees Google's mapping products. "Web applications have a way to go."

Other limitations are intentional. For security reasons, a browser cannot seamlessly access files or other programs on a computer. And, of course, Web applications require a persistent Internet connection _ making work difficult on airplanes.

Usability expert Jakob Nielsen also worries that loss of productivity _ a minute here, a minute there, multiplied by thousands of employees _ will offset any savings in installation costs.

"When you do a lot of transactions, you want something that's optimized for the transaction, not something optimized for information browsing," he said.

Among other criticisms, developer tools for Ajax aren't as mature as those for one of its chief rivals, Macromedia Inc.'s Flash. And many Ajax programs don't work well beyond Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Mozilla's Firefox browsers.

Yet Web-based applications are increasingly appealing at a time separate computers for home, work and travel are common and people get used to sharing calendars and other data with friends and relatives.

Ajax can make those experiences richer.

"There's a lot of power sitting on that Web browser ... that people are just tapping into," said White of eBusiness Applications. Web developers "are beginning to push its limits in terms of creative uses and new applications."

NSW: Public housing tenants lose tenure and face rent hikes

NSW: Public housing tenants lose tenure and face rent hikes

By Peter Jean and David Crawshaw

SYDNEY, April 27 AAP - Public housing tenants in NSW will lose the right to life-long
government housing and many will face substantial rent increases this year, the NSW government
has warned.

As part of the biggest shake-up of public housing in 50 years, all new public housing
tenants will be placed on fixed-term leases of between two and 10 years.

About a third of the state's 130,000 public housing households will also face rent
increases from July 1.

To encourage those who can afford it to move into private housing, tenants on moderate
incomes will have to pay 30 per cent of their income in rent, up from 25 per cent.

About 12,500 tenants paying full market rent will pay an average $30 a week more, but
in some cases a lot more, as prices are updated to reflect current property conditions.

Households which currently pay 11 per cent of their Family Tax Benefit in rent, will
face an increase of one per cent per year over the next three years and all public housing
tenants will have to pay for water.

NSW Premier Bob Carr said the move to fixed term leases, which will not affect current
tenants, was aimed at freeing up public housing for people who really needed it.

"We're fundamentally ending the idea of public housing for life," Mr Carr told reporters.

Housing Minister Joe Tripodi said tenants would have their eligibility for government
housing reassessed at the end of their leases.

"Under the new arrangements we'll make an assessment and ask you for example, `please
explain where you got your BMW from and what kind of lifestyle you're living,'" he told
reporters today.

"And if you can't explain, you'll be asked to leave."

NSW Council of Social Services director Gary Moore said he doubted whether people forced
into the private rental market would find affordable housing in Sydney.

"We're concerned about the group of so-called modest-income earners for whom the private
rental market is seen as the salvation," Mr Moore said.

Opposition Leader John Brogden backed the introduction of fixed-term leases, saying
the changes would benefit people who were currently on the public housing waiting list.

"We support a good plan like this," he told reporters.

The increases in rents for people on moderate incomes will apply to single tenants
earning $29,000 or more a year, single parents with two children earning $38,000 or more
a year and couples with two children earning $46,00 or more a year.

The government plans to use the $640 million raised from the rent increases over the
next 10 years on upgrading or building 30,000 new public houses.

NTP Software Releases System Sentinel 5.1 with Fault Tolerance Monitors and Resolves Application and Server Failures.

Business Editors & High Tech Writers

MANCHESTER, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 30, 2001

Management Kits integrate with Microsoft Windows NT/2000, Exchange,

SQL Server, IIS, SMS, Lotus/Domino, Citrix MetaFrame,

CA ARCserveIT and Compaq Insight Manager

NTP Software, an innovative leader in network storage, system health monitoring and application infrastructure management technology, today announced that its newest release of System Sentinel(TM) is enhanced with fault tolerance. The fault tolerance features now in System Sentinel make it one of the only application and network health solutions with redundancy built-in to its monitoring and alerting capabilities.

A self-diagnosing and troubleshooting solution which pinpoints internal system and application problems or failures, System Sentinel restarts failed applications and system services, or takes other specified corrective actions. It's fully configurable to follow directions, and provides advanced log management through event filtering, caching and routing of events to various media such as pagers, email, ODBC databases and SNMP traps.

System Sentinel is dedicated to real-time monitoring of

-- Critical applications (email, e-business, client/server, etc.), -- Windows NT/2000 event logs, UNIX and Linux SYSLOGs, -- TCP/IP servers (NT, UNIX and mainframe systems) and devices (workstations, PCs, terminals, network components, hubs, routers and switches).

System Sentinel uses locally installed agents to collect data on events and then passes on that information in real time to an Event Dispatcher Server (EDS). System Sentinel can also be configured to operate without agents.

System Sentinel monitors locally via installed agents, and remotely via agent-less management. System Sentinel then takes specified corrective actions on the server or device where the problem occurred, and also alerts you to security thresholds, including:

-- Denial of Service (DoS) attacks

-- Internal and external hacker activity

-- File/object access successes and failures

-- Security policy changes

-- Server restarts and shutdowns

-- Log-on/log-off successes and failures

New Enhancement: Out-of-the-Box Fault Tolerance

System Sentinel's built-in fault tolerance ensures that the monitoring and management of a system will continue without interruption if the primary server running System Sentinel should fail. Administrators assign backup servers by priority and if the primary server fails, the first backup will automatically take over -- if that server should also fail, your second backup will then assume the role, and so on.

"Network managers install health monitoring systems to ensure that their networks stay up. Ironically, most network monitoring solutions do nothing to guard against their own vulnerability," says NTP Software's Director of Professional Services Ryan LaPlante. "System Sentinel distinguishes itself in the marketplace by providing automatic failover of its own monitoring systems."

Advanced Application Management Kits (AAMKs)

System Sentinel ships with Advanced Application Management Kits (AAMKs) for the most critical applications and network operating systems. AAMKs are comprised of predefined templates to provide vendor-recommended settings for monitoring applications. When settings are imported into System Sentinel, the preconfigured ASCII log templates, event filters, Service Watcher settings, performance monitoring counters and others immediately begin to monitor and manage the operating system or application. You can use the settings as they are or modify them as needed for your local environment. Current kits include:

-- Microsoft Windows NT

-- Microsoft Windows 2000

-- Microsoft Exchange

-- Lotus Notes/Domino

-- Microsoft SQL Server

-- Citrix MetaFrame

-- Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS)

-- Microsoft Proxy Server

-- Microsoft Systems Manager Server (SMS)

-- CA ARCserveIT

-- Remedy Help Desk

-- Compaq Insight Manager (CIM)

You can build monitoring and management templates for any application.

Enterprise Application Services Extension(TM) (EASE) Technology

System Sentinel also includes Enterprise Application Services Extension (EASE), to provide unified distributed application management for System Sentinel 5.1. EASE enables administrators to manage 1000 servers as if they were only one.

"Other solutions allow you to build a network management hierarchy and call it single-seat administration," said Bruce Backa, president and CEO of NTP Software. "However, only EASE-enabled solutions automatically replicate settings to any licensed server in your hierarchy immediately. With EASE, administrators are able to deploy and manage configurations from one console."

EASE is currently compatible with Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 networks, with future support for Unix.

Cue games coaching camp a success.

Sri Lanka, July 7 -- The Billiards and Snooker Association of Sri Lanka (BSASL) successfully conducted their Inaugural Snooker, Billiards and Pool coaching programme for 50 cueists including enthusiastic youngsters who are new to the sport. The three-day programme was held at the BSASL Head Quarters recently.

The participants were educated on history of cue sports, BSASL, specifications of all tables and implements, rules and regulations, sports law, etiquettes, dress code of the games, conduct of

tournaments, selection criteria for international participation and game situation.

The training sessions were carried out by veteran cueists and BSASL members Henry Boteju, Susantha Boteju, K H Sirisoma, W A J Weerasinghe, Sarath J de Alwis, Ameer Mukhthar and S M Shaharwardi.

Dr. Seevali Jayawickrema of the Sports Ministry's Sports Medicine Unit conducted a lecture on Sports Medicine and its importance to the cue sport. He said that Bio-mechanism has become the latest technology to develop sporting skills to an optima and requested the cueists to familiarize them selves with the Internet in order to study the new trends of the sport.

He also emphasized the importance of good food habits for a sportsman and asked to drink sufficient amount of water during the play times. He said that he will not encourage to drink supplementaries or energydrinks as there is no assurance of whether they contain any banned

substances. "A nutritious, balanced meal is my best recommendation," Dr. Jayawickrema said.

Deputy Director of the Sports Development Department Sajith Jayalal who lectured on "Improvement of mental and physical fitness of a player" said that the cueists should improve their short distance endurance and excessive strength in their arms to master this sport. He demonstrated some exercises and prescribed a milled warm-up before practices. As body and mental balance will play a vital role in the cue game, players must enhance their concentration power. Jayalal recommended meditation and asked the players to have a proper sleep in the night before a game.

The course director Sarath J de Alwis said that the BSASL will conduct their second training programme within two weeks at the Panagoda Army camp auditorium. "Our next programme is for trainers and coaches. BSASL has identified that the lack of coaches is a great obstacle to

popularize this sport. We hope to train coaches to bring this sport to outstations. There will be another training for the cueists after two months where the BSASL will select 10 to 15 young players to train

under a foreign coach, aiming 2018 commonwealth Games," Alwis explained.

BSASL President Shafeek Rajabdeen, its Secretary Col. IndrajithWidyananda and BSASL officials were participated in the programme.

Entanet supports UNHRC claims that DEA breaches rights.

M2 PRESSWIRE-June 16, 2011-: Entanet supports UNHRC claims that DEA breaches rights(C)1994-2011 M2 COMMUNICATIONS

RDATE:16062011

In its latest opinion article (http://opinion.enta.net), Entanet, the pioneering wholesale communications provider, supports recent claims by the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) that the DEA could in fact breach Civil and Political Rights because of its disproportionate measures to disconnect users from the Internet.

The article quotes Frank La Rue, the UNHRCs Special Rapporteur who stated: The Special Rapporteur is deeply concerned by discussions regarding a centralized on/off control over Internet traffic. In addition, he is alarmed by proposals to disconnect users from Internet access if they violate intellectual property rights, considering this to be disproportionate and thus a violation of article 19, paragraph 3, of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

Entanet, which has been critical of and opposed to the DEA since its initial conception, agrees with the UNHRC. In the opinion article Entanets Head of Marketing, Darren Farnden, states: At the risk of repeating ourselves once again, the DEA is fundamentally flawed and is in desperate need of review. Additionally the speculated EU IPRS call for cooperation from ISPs also needs careful consideration. If the government and the EU continue to ignore the industry most affected and knowledgeable on this subject then they are undoubtedly heading for a disaster. Maybe the UN can bring them to their senses, but we wont hold our breath. We fear the DEA is an indestructible nemesis.

Regulation SHO took effect January 3, 2005, and provides a new regulatory framework governing short selling of securities. It was designed with the objective of simplifying and modernizing short sale regulation and providing controls where they are most needed. At the conclusion of each settlement day, data is provided on securities in which: 1) there are at least 10,000 shares in aggregate failed deliveries for the security for five consecutive settlement days, and 2) these failures constitute at least 0.5% of the issuer's total shares outstanding. Regulation SHO mandates that, if a clearing agent has had a fail-to-deliver position for 13 consecutive settlement days, that clearing agent, and the broker/dealer it clears for, must purchase securities to close out its fail to deliver position.

About BUYINS.NET

WWW.BUYINS.NET is a service designed to help bonafide shareholders of publicly traded US companies fight naked short selling. Naked short selling is the illegal act of short selling a stock when no affirmative determination has been made to locate shares of the stock to hypothecate in connection with the short sale. Buyins.net has built a proprietary database that uses Threshold list feeds from NASDAQ, AMEX and NYSE to generate detailed and useful information to combat the naked short selling problem. For the first time, actual trade by trade data is available to the public that shows the attempted size, actual size, price and average value of short sales in stocks that have been shorted and naked shorted. This information is valuable in determining the precise point at which short sellers go out-of-the-money and start losing on their short and naked short trades.

BUYINS.NET has built a massive database that collects, analyzes and publishes a proprietary SqueezeTrigger for each stock that has been shorted, www.buyins.net/squeezetrigger.pdf. The SqueezeTrigger database of nearly 1,550,000,000 short sale transactions goes back to January 1, 2005, and calculates the exact price at which the Total Short Interest is short in each stock. This data was never before available prior to January 1, 2005, because the Self Regulatory Organizations (primary exchanges) guarded it aggressively. After the SEC passed Regulation SHO, exchanges were forced to allow data processors like Buyins.net to access the data.

The SqueezeTrigger database collects individual short trade data on over 7,000 NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ stocks and general short trade data on nearly 8,000 OTCBB and PINKSHEET stocks. Each month the database grows by approximately 50,000,000 short sale transactions and provides investors with the knowledge necessary to time when to buy and sell stocks with outstanding short positions. By tracking the size and price of each month's short transactions, BUYINS.NET provides institutions, traders, analysts, journalists and individual investors the exact price point where short sellers start losing money.
