BOTULISM FOUND IN LAKE ONTARIO GULLS BY ROB STREETER.(SPORTS)

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation has discovered Type E Botulism in at least four of the dozen sea gulls that died mysteriously along the shores of Lake Ontario.

The DEC made the discovery after collecting and analyzing samples from the birds, the first two of which were found the first week of July on the sand spit between North Sandy Pond and Lake Ontario in Oswego County. One of those gulls tested positive for Type E Botulism. Three gulls collected at Fair Haven in Cayuga County, all during the second week of July, tested positive. An additional three from the Rochester area still are being tested.
